Woodville Public Library Reading Takes You To New Places Our Story The Woodville Public Library was established in October of 1984 and has been in its current building since 1989. The library is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. To explore the library and all it has to offer, click here Meet The Librarian and Library Board Members Library Director My name is Alyssa Cosby, and I have been the Library Director since September of 2021. I have my MLIS that I received from the University of Kentucky in 2024 and my BS in Criminal Justice from APLS that I received in 2019. I am Class of 2014 Woodville Alum, as well as an original senior and Founder of Panthers Always Living Strong (P.A.L.S.). I have lived in Woodville for the majority of my life, and I am happy to be able to work in the community and connect with everyone here. Board Chair My name is Beverly Cosby. I have been on the library board in various capacities since 2017, serving first as a member, then vice-president, and now president since 2019. I am also the Manager of Woodville's Dollar General, where I have worked for eight years though I have been with the company since 2000. The Town of Woodville has been my home since 1987, and I love the community here. Working with the library to help it host its many fundraisers and programs throughout the year is something I greatly enjoy doing. Vice-President My name is Savannah Taylor. I have been a resident of Woodville for most my life. I graduated from Woodville High School where I met my husband of sixteen years, Timon Taylor. We have three amazing kids, Jayse, Anniston and Oakley. I have been a part of the Woodville Public Library Board for three years. During that time, I have held the position of Secretary, and I am currently the Vice President. My name is Savanna Baker-Cooper. Upon graduating from Woodville High School in 2014, I moved to Madison, Al and began a career in pharmacy while attending Calhoun Community College. My husband, Cory, and I moved back to Woodville in 2019 and started a logistics business. Then, in late 2022, we welcomed our first born, Bentlee Van, into the world. I started my role on the public library board during the summer of 2022 and have loved every moment of it, especially getting to see how much thought has gone into helping our community.

Community Events Woodville Public Library hosts a variety of community events throughout the year for all ages to enjoy. From monthly Bingo nights and community yard sales to our yearly Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Carnival, Halloween Night Trick-or-Treating, Ring in the New Year event, and Back-to-School Splash, there is always something fun happening at the library. We also offer special activities during spring and fall break, giving families a welcoming place to gather, celebrate, play, and make memories together. Here's what's going on... Bingo Bingo is held once monthly on a Friday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The proceeds go to help the library host different events Want to earn free tickets? To keep up with how Woodville has changed over the years and what is happening today, this site is the place to keep an eye on. Woodville's History Calming. Peaceful. Home. The town of Woodville, AL was established in 1815 by Henry Derrick. It was named after two of the older residents, Richard and Annie Wood and is located in the Southwestern corner of Jackson County. It is the oldest town within Jackson County, with Jackson County officially having been created on December 13, 1819, which was a day before the State of Alabama was established. However, for a short time, Woodville was also elected to be the county seat for Decatur County. Decatur County briefly covered part of what is now Jackson County from 1821 to 1825, when Decatur County was abolished and Woodville once again became a part of Jackson County. Today, Woodville is a growing continuously, adding new businesses and offering services to its citizens in the hopes of staying a town that is full of activity. From the early days, Woodville had several committed citizens that brought businesses into the town, creating atmospheres where everyone felt welcome. From barbershops, salons, and gas stations to saw mills, doctor's offices, and hotels, Woodville evolved into a town that tried to offer everything its larger counterparts would. In the future, Woodville hopes to continue to grow, offering more for its citizens to do and benefit from.
